Install LotusQ on Linux

Allow keyboard access.

LotusQ hears your shortcut by reading the keyboard, and types by acting as a keyboard. That's what lets it work on Wayland. Linux doesn't allow either by default.

  • .deb, .rpm, .pacman: nothing to do. The package adds a rule that gives access to whoever is logged in at the computer, and takes it back when they log out. If the key does nothing the first time, log out and back in once.
  • AppImage: run these once, then log out and back in.
sudo tee /etc/udev/rules.d/70-lotusq-input.rules >/dev/null <<'EOF'
KERNEL=="uinput", SUBSYSTEM=="misc", TAG+="uaccess"
SUBSYSTEM=="input", KERNEL=="event*", TAG+="uaccess"
EOF
echo uinput | sudo tee /etc/modules-load.d/lotusq-uinput.conf >/dev/null
sudo modprobe uinput
sudo udevadm control --reload-rules && sudo udevadm trigger

This lets the person logged in at this computer read keyboards and create a virtual keyboard. Access ends when you log out.

Sign in.

Sign in inside the app. Use your email or Google. New accounts get 7 days free, no card needed, and the trial starts the first time you sign in. Without a card you get about 2 hours of dictation a day; adding a card removes the limit. After the trial it's $6 a month or $60 a year. If you don't add a card, LotusQ simply stops transcribing when the trial ends. You're never charged.

Help.

Updates: The .deb, .rpm and .pacman packages don't update themselves, and LotusQ won't tell you when a new version is out. Come back to this page for new versions, or use the AppImage, which updates itself.
